NOTE: This place is CASH ONLY.
This place is a great spot to post up and watch some soccer. Been watching some World Cup here and the setup is fantastic. Beer/liquor selection is good, fries are excellent, and service is wonderful. The staff are super friendly and fast with your orders. A bit dark inside but sneak out to that back patio that's practically hidden. Definitely hit this place up if you're just trying to grab a beer with a friend or watch some sports. -

The Field is one of those places I feel reasonably confident calling an institution. It's a unique blend of sports bar, dive and townie hangout that makes me love/hate Boston area, generally. Somehow it straddles the line between intolerable hipster and grimy Masshole, coming out homey and just a little irritating on the other side.
For example: The space is weird, there's random columns and tables strewn about, the worlds most uneven pool table making both conversation and accurate shots impossible, but somehow that pushes you closer to friends and strangers in a way that might just lead to random bouts of singing the national anthem (This actually happened).
It also has a patio that is awesome on summer nights, except for the smell of the dumpster you're sitting next to and the alley lights blinding you.
Food is okay. Service is a mix of friendly and "why are you talking to me?". And I know all this sounds like a negative review, but that's the magic of the Field. It defies definition. And in a town of wannabe chic (Cuchi Cuchi) and absolute garbage dumps (Tavern in the Square), it's refreshingly vague. -

This is a good place to go to have some drinks, a bite to eat and watch the game. Reasonable prices, decent quality, facilities, pleasant staff. The only issue I had is this is a cash-only establishment. They don't even take debit cards. There's an ATM on site, but I hate using those.

CASH ONLY. CASH ONLY.
Food was food, beer was beer. You can get more character and flavor at Cambridge Common for cheaper -- and they take card. Cash only is a joke, especially when your aren't impressively cheap by any means. Their atm charges a $2.50 fee and I didn't see cash only signs, none whatsoever. -

CASH ONLY BAR! They also have a pool table and an outdoor patio. I work in central and it's a great spot to walk over to meet with co-workers for an afternoon drink.
